Housing here is a mix of mid-century colonials and split-levels alongside newer subdivisions built from the 1990s onward. Conditions run to heavy wet snow loads, repeated freeze-thaw cycling from December through March, and humid summers that swell untreated wood.
Central Massachusetts
Housing here is dense older neighborhoods of triple-deckers and Victorians in the cities, giving way to capes, ranches, and colonials in the surrounding towns. Conditions run to noticeably colder winters and deeper snowfall than the coast, a longer freeze season, and strong spring wind off open ground.
Greater Boston
Housing here is Victorians, two-families and triple-deckers from the streetcar era, many in local historic districts, alongside heavily renovated postwar infill. Conditions run to coastal-moderated winters that still swing hard across freezing, wind funnelled between closely spaced houses, and summer humidity that holds in shaded side yards.
the Blackstone Valley
Housing here is nineteenth-century mill housing and worker cottages sitting next to postwar capes and recent subdivision construction. Conditions run to river-valley damp that lingers well into spring, hard freeze-thaw swings, and persistent ice damming along north-facing eaves.
the South Shore
Housing here is postwar capes and ranches at scale, expanded over decades, alongside older village centres and dense triple-deckers near the shipyards. Conditions run to coastal storm exposure, driving rain that arrives sideways, salt-laden air inland of the water, and wind speeds that push exterior assemblies harder than the inland towns see.
the Nashoba Valley
Housing here is antique farmhouses and colonial-era capes on large lots, with newer custom construction filling in the former orchards. Conditions run to colder inland winters, deeper frost, and long shoulder seasons where wet ground delays anything that needs an excavator.
the North Shore
Housing here is First Period and Federal-era houses under strict historic review, mill-era housing in the cities, and dense postwar development between them. Conditions run to the harshest exterior exposure we work in: salt air, nor easter wind loading, and wind-driven rain that finds any flashing detail that was rushed.
the Merrimack Valley
Housing here is mill-era housing near the river, postwar subdivisions on the terraces above it, and large-lot custom homes further out. Conditions run to cold inland winters with heavy snow, spring runoff that saturates low ground, and a freeze season that runs longer than the coastal towns.
